This mini-zine came about after randomly coming across the translations of Xu Lizhi's work done by Nào (闹), a contributor for LibCom.org.
We decided to turn these works into a zine after being blown away by the poetry. Each poem is highly personal and yet shares an experience to which many can relate, the feelings of hopelessness or, meaninglessness of the everyday.
While the zine is just a collection of Xu's writing without insight or dialogue, you can find more information on Nao's blog through LibCom.
These poems were written while Xu Lizhi was living and working for Foxconn. Xu committed suicide on 30 Sept. 2014, at the age of 24.
Many of these suicides are not publicized in China or other countries where sweat shops, or factory labor is present.
For those with suicidal thoughts or, mental illness, there are affinity groups such as the Icarus Project and other alternatives. You can also always call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255.
